Projects and Circuits
The Styloclone musical instrument by Phil Prosser
3
This homage to a musical classic is an excellent project for beginners. It’s also fun for
the musically inclined. The whole project fits on one easy-to-build circuit board that can
be mounted in a case or built as a free-standing project.
Intelligent Dual Hybrid Power Supply, part one by Phil Prosser
20
This power supply has two outputs, each capable of up to 25V DC at 5A. They can be
connected in series and ganged up to form a dual tracking supply, and both outputs
are controlled using a graphical LCD screen, two rotary encoders and two buttons.
Dual Mini LED Dice by Nicholas Vinen
42
This article is a blend of the old and the new. It was inspired by a design from 1994 but
has been updated to use more modern parts (still with discrete logic) and runs from a
3V coin cell. As we have used mostly SMDs, it will easily fit in your pocket.
The Skill Tester 9000, part two by Phil Prosser
64
This retro game is a fun and educational project to create a dexterity-based game with
nine difficulty levels, a health bar graph, a timer and four different sound effects. It is
based mainly on 4000-series logic and all through-hole parts on a single circuit board.
Series, Features and Columns
The History of Electronics, part six by Dr David Maddison
13
Over the last five issues, we have described many individuals and organisations that
made vital contributions to electronics. This sixth and final part in the series covers
innovations from universities, companies and other organisations since 1962.

Weird & Wonderful Arduino Projects, part 6: shift registers and 8-segment displays.
Precision Electronics, part six by Andrew Levido
70
These days, most analog circuitry eventually interfaces with the digital realm, such
as with a microcontroller, so we also need to understand the precision approach to
analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters (ADCs & DACs).
