This disk contains the 'Rave' midi sequencer program. Rave requires
as a minimum Microsoft Windows Version 3.1 and some form of midi
output device.

The files on this disk are:

  rave.exe	the 'Rave' program
  rave.hlp	it's help file
  midisys.dll	Rave's midi support library
ctl3d.dll	Microsoft's freely distributable '3d' effect for dialogs

and in addition:

midiout.drv	provides additional midi output buffering and in particular
decouples 'midi through' output from the midi input
interrupt that generated it. This sometimes improves the
accuracy of the timestamps on incoming midi data. Rave will
automatically use this driver if it is copied (by hand) into
		the /windows/system directory.

ravempu.drv	alternative Windows multimedia driver for mpu-401 compatible
midi cards (uart mode). This driver takes particular care
over the timestamping of incoming midi events. If this
driver is used, midiout.drv is not required.

ravempu.drv can be installed in the normal fashion from
the 'drivers' option in the Windows control panel.

It also contains sundry other setup and installation files.

Rave will use the Windows midi-mapper device for output if it is
available, or failing that, any other midi output devices that it can
find. It will use the first midi input driver it can find - this is
the first Midi input driver that you installed, i.e. the first one
listed in the [drivers] section of the Windows system.ini file. Rave
can also make use of a single 'wave' device, if one is available.

However some drivers are 'single open' devices; in particular the
SoundBlaster wave/midi driver only allows one of the ( midi in, wave
in, wave out ) devices to be opened at any one time.
