AP5002SG buck regulator IC (SOIC-8)
This regulator IC has been discontinued but we've used it in a few of our projects, so we've bought some to allow those projects to still be built as designed.
It's a 20V, 2A step-down device with integrated switch that's capable of going to 100% duty cycle. It has no thermal pad to solder.

RGB LED Star kit
This kit contains the mostly pre-assembled main PCB for the RGB LED Star plus the microcontroller (IC1), switch-mode regulator (REG2) and power input header (CON1, right-angle).
You just need to snap the PCB off the carriers, fit those separate components, add a power supply (eg, 12V DC @ 1.5A) and it'll be up and running.
