This construction technique must
be followed exactly, otherwise the
resonant frequency will be other
than that which is desired. In any
case, a GDO (grid dip oscillator)
should be used to verify the correct
frequency of operation, after the
antenna is mounted on the vehicle.
After the coil has been wound
.and the coupling "capacitor" installed, the PVC shroud can be
glued in place and the top of the coil
soldered to the top metal fitting. As
the 1/2-wave whip mounting technique is quite strong, it is suitable for
either VHF or UHF antennas.
