Software for MAX7219
Test programs for the MAX7219 controller for Arduino and Micromite as described in "El Cheapo Modules 7: SPI 8x8 LED Matrix Display Module" from the June 2017 issue.

MAX7219 controller (SMD) with pluggable 8x8 red LED matrix display
An 8x8 red LED dot matrix, driven by an SMD MAX7219 on a separate, pluggable board. The boards can be daisy chained to make larger displays and are controlled via a serial bus.
Pin headers are supplied separately and can be soldered onto the sides of the display, or you can solder one display directly to another using short wire links.
See the article in the June 2017 issue, titled "El Cheapo Modules, Part 7: LED Matix displays".

MAX7219 controller (DIP) with pluggable 8x8 red LED matrix display and jumper leads
An 8x8 red LED dot matrix, driven by a DIP MAX7219 on a separate, pluggable board. The boards can be daisy chained to make larger displays and are controlled via a serial bus.
The onboard right-angle pin header for power and communications is next to the MAX7219 IC (see photo). It is supplied with a short length of ribbon cable with female DuPont headers at either end, for connection to your microcontroller board.
See the article in the June 2017 issue, titled "El Cheapo Modules, Part 7: LED Matix displays".

MAX7219 controller (SMD) with red 8-digit 7-segment display
An 8-digit 7-segment red LED display with 9.2mm-high digits, driven by an SMD MAX7219 IC. It can be controlled via an SPI serial bus.
