Firmware (HEX) file and BASIC source code for the Micromite-based Touchscreen Appliance Energy Meter [v1.01]
Firmware (both with and without pre-loaded BASIC code) and BASIC source for the Touchscreen-controlled Energy Meter Clock.
The download includes the HEX file with everything included plus the two separate BASIC source files, as well as the MPLAB X IDE projects to re-build the two CFUNCTIONs.
This revised version (v1.01) works around a production error on the RevG PCB, fixes the out-of-memory error when attempting to change the Real Time Clock time/date and also improves various other minor features.

CP2102-based USB/TTL serial converter with microUSB socket and 6-pin right-angle header
Note: that there is a separate CP2102 that comes with jumper cable, 5-pin header and a regular USB connector. This is used for other projects and the respective details can be found here: http://www.siliconchip.com.au/Shop/7/3437
A small USB/serial converter module with a microUSB connector - no cable included. Can be used to build the Touchscreen Appliance Energy Meter or to add a USB port to another project which uses an RS-232 TTL serial interface.
Modern operating systems like Windows 10 should not require any drivers to use this device - plug it in and it should be recognised and ready to use straight away.
We have only tested this adaptor in Windows; it should work with Linux and Mac OSX.
Please note: we have had reports that the 3.3V output is actually closer to 4.2V. You should check this voltage before connecting anything critical.

CP2102-based USB/TTL serial converter with microUSB socket and 6-pin right-angle header (clone version)
Please note: this is a clone version which works but the 3.3V output is actually closer to 4.2V. We have reduced the price because of this.

DS3231-based Real Time Clock & Calendar module with mounting hardware
A DS3231-based RTCC module with onboard I²C pull-up resistors and pin header interface. Included in the pack are two 10mm M2 Nylon tapped spacers and four 6mm M2 Nylon machine screws for mounting.
Note 1: no cell is supplied with the module. It is designed to use a rechargeable cell. You can use a CR2032 (or similar) Lithium button cell but in this case you MUST remove the SMD diode to prevent the battery from being charged. See the Super Clock article in the July 2016 issue for more details.
Note 2: as this module has onboard pull-up resistors for the I²C bus, you may need to remove them, or avoid fitting pull-up resistors on the master, for it to share a bus with other peripherals.

ACS718 20A isolated current monitor
An ACS718KMATR-20B-T in a wide SOIC-16 package, as required by the revised version of the Appliance Energy Meter.
This IC provides sufficient isolation to meet insulation standards for double-insulated equipment operating at 230VAC.

Touchscreen Appliance Energy Meter PCB [04116061 RevI]
Main PCB for the Touchscreen-controlled Energy Meter. A Micromite LCD BackPack kit is also required.
Double-sided PCB with plated through holes, solder mask and silkscreen overlay.
This revised version uses an ACS718 isolated current shunt IC rather than the ACS712, which had an insufficient Reinforced Voltage Rating for double-insulated use. The only other substitution required is to delete one 100nF 3216/1206 SMD capacitor and add one 1nF 3216/1206 SMD capacitor. See the December 2016 issue for further details on thse changes.
132 x 85mm.

PIC32MX170F256B-50I/SP programmed for the Micromite-based Touchscreen Energy Meter v1.01 [0411606A.hex]
A 32-bit PIC microcontroller in 28-pin DIP programmed for the Touchscreen-controlled Energy Meter v1.01. This includes the Micromite software v5.2 as well as the TFT LCD configuration, with the Energy Meter BASIC program pre-loaded.
This revised version (v1.01) works around a production error on the RevG PCB, fixes the out-of-memory error when attempting to change the Real Time Clock time/date and also improves various other minor features.

Touchscreen Appliance Energy Meter PCB pettern (PDF download) [04116061 RevG]
PDF with the PCB design for the Touchscreen-controlled Energy Meter (double-sided).
Both layers of both PCBs are in a single PDF. Note that there are numerous vias and it would be tricky to etch this board at home.

Touchscreen Appliance Energy Meter lid panel artwork (PDF download)
A PDF with the front panel/lid panel artwork and a separate file with the drilling templates for the Touchscreen-controlled Energy Meter.

Micromite LCD BackPack kit (programmed for Energy Meter)
THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE KIT FOR THE APPLIANCE ENERGY METER.
A kit of all the parts required to build the 2.8-inch version of the Micromite LCD BackPack. See the parts list link below for details on what is included.
Note: the lid is NOT included in this kit as it is a different size than the standard LCD BackPack and is available separately.
The PCBs (both for the Energy Meter and LCD BackPack), programmed microcontroller and regulator are also available separately. We can also supply a suitable real-time clock module although one is not included in this kit.
For assembly instructions, see the article in the February 2016 issue.
PLEASE NOTE: the 10µF and 47µF capacitors supplied are non-polarised SMD ceramic types. They have no markings and can be installed either way around. You can tell them apart as the 10µF capacitors are in a pack of two.
